Vehicle when first started engaged forward and reverse. Travel approx.3 miles down highway and no drive. Coasted to roadside and shut vehicle off. After 3or4 minutes. Started vehicle and was able to proceed another 3 to 4 miles until same thing happened. I did this repeatedly until I made it to town, about 10 miles. Parked vehicle, shut off engine, waited and restarted. Forward and reverse engage. Key point seems to be when vehicle is shut off, and re-started, the vehicle will engage tranny but for just a couple of miles.

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated.

Sounds like you may have bad pump/seals inside the transmission which are leaking down under pressure... turning vehicle off for a few minutes allows a new pressure build up on restart, this will gradually get worse so the vehicle stops moving altogether.. the transmission will need a strip down to locate the exact cause .. and rebuild to rectify the fault !

hope this helps
