1996 Chevy Blazer engine temperature

Wondering what the normal running temperature is for my 1996 blazer? Even after running an extended amount of time it's only registering at about 170? Is that normal?

170 is fine. Thermostat will begin to open at 188 then completely open at 206. If engine is at 170 it simply means the engine is not warm enough for the thermostat to open yet. Then again though, your gauge may be inaccurate so you might want to test the coolant temp. With a mechanical gauge.
