when I shut the key off it kind of still runs and back fires trough the carborater

Hi Shiela. Sounds like the eng is idleing too high. This usually causes run on. You have to find out if you have a vacum leak under the hood. If not then you have a idle control prob. Good luck hope this helps billymac
