Chevy astro 1990 87,000 4.3 auto transmission.
problem when putting van into forward gear ( reverse good ) to get van to move the engine has to be sped up and then it crashes into gear and starts moving. At highway speeds there is a loud whistling coming from the transmission area. Could this be a vacuum leak from where the control module plugs into the transmission? Broken o-ring on plunger?
Thank you,

Check fluid level first with it running in park.
Low fluid can cause this.
See if there is a vacuum modulator valve on side of trans. Should be on driver side but not sure of top of my head. Will have a vacuum line going to it.
You could have a 700R4 which I don't has one. Or a 4L60E which I think does.I would have to look it all up.
But if you find one, they are cheap and easy to replace. And make sure the line has vacuum on it with engine running.
