I have an 87 astro, new battery, new alternator, but not charging the battery. Have done the remove possitive cable while running test, it stays running. Any ideas?
Have noticed that it seems to stay charged while not running air, drains when air is on.

Also noticed the continuous power to the radio is a grounded wire. Seat belt light goes out when you turn on the head lights. (Working on chasing down these problems)

Hiya kranz, well lets see, first things first, Check your alternater wires to make sure non is corroded or severedsome ware. ALso check the wiring on the starter to make sure you have good connections their.

If non of these pan out then you have an open circuit some were and will need to locate it in order to stop the battery from draining. But first check the wiring and will start there.

Let me no what you find

Richard

That’s a good start I also wanted to add that you do want to disconnect the continuos line from the ground that alone can not only kill the battery but also disrupt other functions in the car.

So, I have a feeling that the starter is going bad, So I will be replacing that today. I have found the sorce of the blowing fuse for the constant power to the radio, dome lights, ect- the Cig. Lighter plug was bad.
All I have left to figure out is the door locks. Still not bad for a $500 Van. I will post another question today about a air switch
