2003 Chevy Astro Thumping Noises

When driving my Astro Van has started making thumping noises almost like a bad or flat tire. I'm not sure where the noise is coming from and it seems to stop when I apply the break. We were planning on going on a trip with the van but now I am afraid to. Any ideas what it could be?

Lugs loose on wheel. Had a Goodyear mechanic check it out. No charge, (rare in these days) Husband said it needed a better battery so he purchased one there, it was the least we could do for the guy not hosing us for checking it out. Great place on Heisley Rd. In Mentor Ohio, next time I have any problems they'll have my business for being straight up and honest not to mention the relief to me not having a huge repair bill when it was only due to loose lug nuts.
