Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 250K miles

Hello. My astro van stalls out when you give it to much push. It was stalling all the time and we replaced the oxegen sensor and put a new muffler on it. However the catalytic converter has been bored out. Didnt cause problems before. We have just put a new fuel pump and filter in it. Took it to checker to get tested but for some reason the van is faulty and does not register with the diagnostic. My brother in law thought it was the mass air flow sensor. But according to checker. Com and auto zone my car does not have one of those. Any ideas?

Hi:
Without a code, everything is a guess. A map sensor can cause this problem, but again that is a guess. What you need to do is have the van checked at a dealership to determine why you can't scan the computer. There may be a wiring problem that need fixed that woll take care of all of the problems.

Let me know what you find.
Joe

Thanks for your response. We took the van in. New computer new map sensor and all new fuel injectors. 1400 bucks later and still a problem. Then. New fuel pump. (Which we just replaced 8 months ago) and wala. Runs like new.

Do you think it was the fuel pump all along? Did they check the fuel pressure prior to all of the other work?

They did check the fuel pressure and said it was coming out just fine but that it was dropping off somewhere. Then when they saw the fuel injectors the ones on the left were completely burnt up. I think they just assumed that was the problem. Really if I knew it would cost that much it would have been a different decision. The van has 249,170 miles on it.
