A week or so ago I technically ran the car empty, technically in that gauge still showed 5 miles to empty but due to parking on an incline I suppose it was enough the car could not pull any fuel. Added some diesel maybe a gallon at most and car started perfectly. I stopped to get more fuel and drove home (20-mile trip) without incident or signs anything was wrong. The next morning the car just turned over and over but no start. I checked all fuses first and even replaced the fuel filter that I already had on hand just in case. I've cycled my ignition many times to prime and still no dice. More or less ignorant when it comes to cars, but I can work through most repairs but major engine repairs and the fuel system I've never had to address.

Hello,

It sounds like you might have a problem with the in-tank pre delivery fuel pump. Running the fuel tank empty most likely damaged the fuel pump.

A quick check is to cycle the ignition and listen for the in-tank fuel pump to energize. A normal pump will emit a light buzzing noise. A damaged pump will either hum load or will not switch on at all.

See below picture how the pump looks like.

Please let us know how you get along.

Cheers, Boris
