The car stops at random any temperature no set amount of kms driven. When it stops it has spark, pulsing injectors, and good fuel pressure. Did the crank sensor and idle sensors too. No codes show up on ECU. Get the car towed home and the next day the car starts up again. Checked all harness and sensor connectors.

Hello,

This could be a problem with a loose or corroded electrical connector on the ignition switch. In the diagrams down below I have included the guide on how to check the ignition switch in your vehicle from the vehicle manufacturer. I have also included a guide on how to track down intermittent and loose electrical connectors in a vehicle for you as well. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you for your answer. I checked out the ignition switch wiring all good and no loose plugs and wires. So in back to square one. Would there be a problem with the ECU relay? I have checked most of the wiring and plugs under the bonnet this one has me stumped. It just started out of the blue. Any other ideas? Thank you again

Hello again,

I don't think that it would be a problem with the ECU Relay because this would stop all electricity to the ECU and your vehicle wouldn't have any spark or injector pulse. Does your security light come on when your vehicle dies?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi there again, it shuts off and just like you turned on the ignition to start up the vehicle then the engine light goes out like the rest of the lights. Still no codes are coming up from the ECU. The strange thing is that it starts up like normal the next day. I had it running for 5 hours on the weekend but it did not stop. Pulled on every wire I could get hold off and check all the sensor plugs and nothing again. Very strange one don’t you think? Thank you for your reply too.

Hello again,

Okay, this sounds like a loose connection at the battery to me. Can you please verify that the connections at the battery terminals are clean and tight. Also could you follow the wires coming from the negative battery terminal and inspect the grounds to make sure that they are clean, tight, corrosion free, and making good metal to metal contact as well. Please get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again Alex, I have cleaned the battery terminals and pulled out the battery and cleaned the earth strap all clean there was no corrosion on the terminals. I started the car with in minutes the rpm jumped up to 3000 and racing. I disconnected the idle solenoid the revs dropped back to normal. When I plugged the sensor back in it was racing again. I did fit a new idle sensor
with the motor racing if you rev the motor it hesitated due to the idle sensor, before the motor cuts out driving I noticed most times the rpm was up around 3,000 then it starts mucking up and stopping. It has got a mind of its own. What now? Thank you again for all your help.

Hello again,

Is your Malfunction Indicator Lamp [MIL] or "check engine" light illuminated? If so could pull the Direct Trouble Code [DTC] for us please. Report back here and we can go from there.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi there Alex, I have just checked my car to work again, when I started it the idle was very high, I pulled the plug on the idle air control valve and the idle went back to normal, something is telling the idle control air valve to open up more than normal and you can really hear the air rushing into the inlet manifold then it goes back to normal idle when it feels like it, and at no time has the engine warning light come on, hope this helps you, thank you again

Hello,

Is your MIL illuminated? If it is can you please pull the DTC with a code reader for me. Here is a link for you to go to if you are unfamiliar with how to do this:

Hi there, again the MIL goes out when car starts does not illuminate once car is running. But I have scanned the ECU in the passed few weeks no codes are coming up. That’s why it may be a electrical problem which I found out from Hyundai only picked up the electronic goods.

Hello,

Okay, so the MIL proves out at bulb check. That's good, there are no DTC's set. This might be a problem with the electrical connectors that go to the Idle Speed Control Actuator[ISC]. In the diagrams down below I have included a diagram of the ISC, ISC connector, and a wiring diagram of your vehicle's ISC circuit[highlighted]. I have also included a guide for poor electrical connectors as well. Please go through these guides and check the electrical connectors going to the ISC and the associated wiring and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you for all that information. I have also added a few extra earth straps from body, battery to different locations on the motor to see what goes on with it on the way home. I will get back to you in regards the the tests on my wires and connectors. Thank you very much again Alex.

Hello again my helpful friend, I have some good news I think the extra earth straps worked. My car went well all afternoon, so I think I have to check one of the earth leads one was under the battery tray which I cleaned up and the other goes into the main harness. As soon as I get time I have to find out where it goes to. I don’t recall seeing it when I have been working on the motor. It may even be disconnected or faulty. I will let you know how I go as soon as I check it. The idle was good all afternoon. I did fit 4 extra earth straps on my lunch break at work. Could this have been causing the staling and idle air control going crazy? Thank you again. I will let you know how I go with the harness earth strap soon. Thank you again

Hello again,

Yes it could. I was taught in tech school by Honda that 75% of all electrical problems are bad grounds. For some reason every one concentrates on the power side of an electrical circuit and forget about the other half, the ground side. Please keep us informed and good job.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again Alex thank you for your reply. All is good so far. I still have to find the main harness earth lead to see what’s up with it and weather it’s connected at all. I will let you know as soon as I find it and check the cable. Thank you again and will be in contact soon. Keep up the great work you are a life saver. Thanks again. Regards, Petar

Hi Alex just a quick update.

I have now found out my AC, cruse control, AC thermo fan and not sure what else is not working now. I checked my thermo fan this afternoon and found there was no earth to in the wiring connected a new earth lead and the fan works now. Are all these items tied together somehow? The motor has not stopped working fine but still seems to be a earth problem under the bonnet. I have not got to the other items that are not working yet. Will try running direct earths the them and see it it gets them working. Any ideas from your end about this problem now? Thank you again for all your help with my problems.
