I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with approximately 144K miles on it. Today as I was pulling into my parking lot and the whole car started shaking and making terrible noises. The first noise was a clicking/popping noise as if the car had run out of gas. Then it started making a screeching noise like if you were to start a car and hold the key all the way back. I have a very limited knowledge on cars and I would like some friendly and knowledgeable opinions online before I have it towed to a mechanic. I also recorded a video if that helps. http://youtu.be/S2uwTTw2BMA

Thanks for the video. That was cool! Gotta love technology.

Anyway, have you mechanic to clean the Idle Air control solenoid (replace if necessary).
You can take the car to the auto parts store to have them to scan you computer (they do this for free). If codes are present, write them down and post them here for further assistance.

Thank you for the advice and I will try my best to get the codes. Is a car in this condition even safe to drive to an auto parts store though? It sounds like its about to break down.

How does it feel when you're on the road? Does it smooth out and run normally?
If so, I would drive it to the auto parts store.
