Come to Phoenix and I will give you THREE Big Macs! The dealership wants $1,100! I knew they were trying to rip me off so I grabbed my vehicle and got the hell out of there! It still runs fine, but the check engine code says it is running to rich. I had that checked at Autozone. I need to find a good, reliable mechanic in the North Scottsdale area!

While driving one day my car shut off with no warning. The tow truck driver suggested it was the fuel pump. I had a mechanic check it out and he suggested the same thing. Please help with any suggestions.

When driving the truck it runs fine under 50 mph and it seems to run just fine if there is more than 1/2 tank of gas. When the tank is under 1/2 full and you go over about 60 mph the accelerator will just go out and come back all of a sudden. Nothing is wrong if you aren't pressing the gas, but when you are it will sputter every once in a while. I drive 50 highway miles to work each day (one-way) where the speed limit is 70 mph. I am sure people around me don't want me going under 60 mph. My husband just changed the fuel filter, so we think it is a fuel pump problem, but due to budget constraints I am hoping it is something cheaper and easier to fix! Can anyone tell me what I can check before having to change the fuel pump?

If it doesnt do it over 1/2 tank of gas, it sounds liek the pump or something in the tank, like a bad line on the tank unit (pump module). That year, with 170k it wouldnt surprise me a bit if the pump was needing replacement. The only way to verify is with a manual pressure gauge

What kind of pump was used? If it wasnt an A/C Delco I would say that yes, it could fail that fast.I have installed customers "less expensive" pumps, just to have to redo it due to low pressure/low volume overall poor performance. Like I said before, since thefuel level matters, use apressure gauge to see ifit is varying when lower than 1/2 tank. Could be a leak inside thetank, like the feed hose on the pump module

The fuel pump is in the tank and is part of a module ase the includes the sending unit. Aft er the tank is dropped far enough dis connect the electrical lines and the fuel lines, finsh dropping it and replace the unit. Then reinstall the same way it came out. Replace the filter at the same time and use a delco or delphi pump unless you want to do it again.
