I am losing reverse and want to just put in a used transmission. I need to know if I. Can use a transmission from other years or does it have to be the same year.I have a read conflicting opinions on this matter.I can buy a 1997 but want to make sure it will work. Both transmission s are 4l60e.I think maybe I can use one out of a 1995, 1996, or 1997. Would like an expert answer all the GM technicians at the dealership were busy when I called.

Good morning,

The issue is the plug for the electronic controls. You have an OBD1 system. 1996 and up are OBD2 controlled. I doubt they will work as their electronics are different.

I would stick to the 1995 only to be sure it will work correctly.
