A 1998 sts north star engine, thermostat replaced. Overheating within about 20 miles or less on the road. Can not find a radiator cap. Have found no leaking and water pump seems to be working fine. What could be causing the overheating.

Headgaskets are bad, headbolt threads have given way and need helicoiled

I am having the same issue with my '98 STS but mine only has 80.000 miles. The mechanic has told me that I will probably need to replace the engine.
How did you resolve your issue?

Haveing it fixed is a better way to go, then you know the headbolt threads are repaired. The engine comes out and the heads come off and all the headbolt threads need repaired regardless if they need it or not. The dealer (a caddy dealer) will cost anywhere from 3-4000.00. They have case hardened steel helicoils for this repair. I have done this repair many times and never had a problem
