Waterpump

I have a 99 deville with 100000 miles on the northstar 4.9 v-8. It has a water leak which looks like it's coming from the water pump area. Have not verified that yet. Is it likely for the water pump housing to leak or not? How much trouble is the pump to change and what other things should I be aware of while doing the pump. Special tools etc. I know I should change the belt and thermostat but what about bleeding procedures etc. Any advice is appreciated.

Get it to shop and replace it now. Otherwise, it can cause overheating resulting in blown head gasket. Bring it to a shop that knows these Northstar engines.

You need a special socket to remove the water pump and to re-install it.

I have changed lots of these, and you have to be very carefull with the oring seal when installing the new pump.

If your not familliar with the northstar you are better off going to someone who is.

Also, dont you mean a 4.6l? :

I have a simlilar problem with the water pump except it is leaking anti freeze from the pulley area of the water pump drive belt. Can I fix this by simply changing the gasket or do I have to change the entire pump?
