I have been told that the replacement of my water pump will take 5hours. Also that it takes a special tool that cannot be bought, it has to be done at the dealer. Is this true? I have a haynes book, but I do not see where there is a special tool needed to do the repair.

It takes about 1/2 hr to 1 hr to repair, yes it needs a special tool to remove and put back in, you can buy it, but you have to find it to buy it. Snap-on tools will have it

Thank you for the advice. So far it sounds good. I will let you know in the end how this all works out. Can you tell me exactly what the socket is called? I searched the Snap-on website and could not find it. As far as the repair time I have been told 5hrs and $600-1000 for the repair. I called another dealer, because of what you told me, and they said $450 max for the repair.

Its just a water pump removal tool, and installer for cadillac. Its used from 94 to present, you have to watch the water pump, look at the new one it has a moon shape in the lip its small it goes in the up position, buy the pump from caddy, you might try to get the tool from autozones borrowing program

You will need a 1/2 in breaker bar also, and remember the 1/2 moon goes in the up position( on the lip) pull it towards you to remove and put some grease on the o-ring to reinstall

some of them can be tough to remove
