Engine Cooling problem
1998 Cadillac Deville V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 106000 miles

Is it even a good idea to repair a bad head gasket on a 1998 Cadillac Deville? The dealership quoted $4000 which I will pay, but is it really even a good idea or just going to end up being a nightmare?

If your are certain a head gasket is what is needed then you should replace it. They have to tear down the engine to replace the head gasket which is why a dealership is charging $4,000. V8 engine is large engine so that is also the reason for the large price tag. The engine will be fine if that is your worry. I hope this answered your question.
