On my car i'm getting obd2 code 118 history engine coolent temp sensor high voltage what can cause this propblem and what problems can this cause far as cooling the engine

Disconnected sensor, faulty sensor, faulty PCM. As far as the physical aspect of engine temperature, this should have little effect. High voltage translates to -40 engine temp, that is what the PCM sees. If it sees the air temperature is higher, than it knows there may be a fault. If anything, you would have a rich run condition, perhaps some higher idle.
