My car started to show the engine oil light signal a few months ago. It only comes on at a stop, and goes off when I am driving. The other day, a warning message came on. It said to stop engine, oil pressure is low. Would it be a sensor, or the oil pressure pump? There is no noise coming from my car, but sometimes there is a burning smell.

Hi:
If the oil level is full and there are no sounds from the engine, chances are it's the sending unit. You can be sure by having it checked. A pressure gauge screws into where the sending unit is. I recommend doing that to make sure you are getting good pressure.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Joe
