There is a bulletin on how to disable the active suspension on your vehicle. For 96 it involves some circuit work and installation of a relay. This procedure is supposed to go in conjunction with installation of passive shocks/struts but has been done just to eliminate the message. The theory behind installing the new struts was so you didn't have potentially a handling problem due to a shock/strut that is stuck in a dampening position unlike others.
