Did a top end rebuild on a V6 Catera, Engine is not starting. In following the insturctions for the Cam Gears 1, 2, 3, 4. Noticed that the Gears could be installed 180 degrees in either direction. Installed the timing belt using the correct tools, all timing marks matched correctly, Checked timing three times after manually rotating the engine clockwise 760 degrees each time. Wondering what is the correct procedure to ensure the cam Gears were installed correctly, and not 180 out?

Hi
Did you have cam gears set on marks before installing head? And crank in place and locked down? Have you checked compression?
Let me know
Thanks for donate

The engine was set to 60 degrees BTDC before the heads were put on. Timing Gears installed without the knowledge of having the cam pins aligned in the slots so numbered, as the info isn't in ALLDATA for the Catera. However found the answer in the Saturn ALLDATA for same engine 3.0L 24valve. Will be rechecking the slots on timing Gear to determine if 180 out.

This is an interference engine any movement of cams or crank without belt on in time can result in valves being damaged.
