Have an old 1977 Buick Skylark/ V6. On initial acceleration, right when I press the gas pedal, the car stalls and dies. I usually can gently accelerate (what I have been doing) to get the car going and is fine in acceleration after this point. I don't feel the car about to sieze as much when the engine is hot and Ive been driving for a while, but still occurs. I usually hear a complete pause of the engine when I first tap the gas and I usually let off the gas if I feel its about to die. And try again.

What kind of repairs/or replacements can I make myself, or do to fix the problems. Thank you very much

We don't get to work on engines with carbs much anymore. I'm willing to bet the accelerator pump in the carb is shot. If you remove the aircleaner, open the choke plates, and look down the carb as you work the throttle back and forth, you should see fuel spray into the throats. If not, or it's just a dribble, you have found your problem. Pump replacement parts are available at ant good parts store fo about $8.00. You will need the number off the carb which is stamped on the rear top of the carb cover. You may elect to get the entire rebuild kit which comes with everything. Hope this helps.
