1999 Buick Regal dash lights

My Regal has automatic headlight turn on when dark. The instrument lights, however, do not turn on with the headlights any more. I can manually turn them on by twisting the light knob, which also turns on the interior cabin lights. Not a good way to drive. I can't afford a auto electrical shop. Help!

Have you checked the headlight switch? That is where the power comes from for the dash lights.

I can manually turn on the dash lights, but as I stated, it turns on the interior cabin lights as well.

What would turn them on automatically with the automatic headlight turn on when it senses it's dark?

It sounds like a short in the switch.
