Noises problem
1998 Buick Regal 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my car seems to be making some sort of "chirping" noise. It seems to be coming from the alternator area. First, what is the cause of the noise? Secondly, is this something I can fix my self?

Try a test. With the engine running, pour a little water on the belt near the alt. Does the sound change?

NOTE: The water may splash back at you so protect your eyes.

Let me know what you find.

I did the test, the sound seemed to quit for a moment then came right back.

If the sound stopped and then came back, the belt is dry or loose. It most likely needs replaced.

That would be my recommendation based on what you found. Let me know if it takes care of the problem. I feel confident it will.
