I got my 96 buick regal, and when I tried to start it I get no power to the engine. I keep crank it and still no starting. I brought a new starter and then when I let it seat over night and in the morning my car started up, but I can only keepit on for maybe 1 hour before the engine deads. What I wanted to know is should I install my starter or should I buy a new battery to fix the problem. It it the STARTER vs. BATTERY, what should I change.

Hello,

Just to clarify, does the engine cranks when you try to start it? or does it just clicks few times before the engine starts?
If it clicks before staring, then it is likely the starter.

However if it just cranks over when you try to start it. Then it could be a sensor. Possibly crank position sensor. Over time heat and vibration of the engine impact the crank sensors performance and it can give you intermittent no start. However it will progressively get worse and can stop staring the engine when it completely fails.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
