1995 Buick Regal 6 cyl Automatic 66,000 miles

I would like to buy a used car, and I have found one with fairly low mileage. The only problem is that it vibrates when started and driving at low speeds. The owner tells me that it has a "harmonic imbalance". I searched for the term and nothing really came up, but I did find some stuff out about a harmonic balancer. If this car has a bad harmonic balancer in it, could the engine be damaged very severely? I dont know how long the car has been vibrating, but the guy said hes had it since it had 40,000 miles on it. I assume it has been vibrating that long at least. Please Help

Hi there,

A harmonic balancer will not give you a vibration that you can feel, this type of vibration is such that it is in a wavelength undetectable by feel, a faulty harmonic balancer can cause a crank shaft to snap over time, I think this problem lies elsewhere, I would be inclined to look for another car as you don't want to be starting out with any problems to fix.
