Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I drive a 91 Buick Park Avenue and its been good but this problem has happened twice once before and once now. I was driving down the road and for no reason the whole engine would shut off while being driven. It would still continue going at the same speed as before. So I tried hitting the brakes but nonething the car wouldn't slow down. So I had to turn the key to the off position. Then it started to slow down. Then when it finally stopped I tried starting the car it took a few times for it to start but eventually started again.

The reason your car wouldn't brake after the engine cut off is because the braking system uses engine vacuum to help you press the pedal. And if there's no vacuum, (engine cut off) then the pedal is extremely hard to depress.

As for your engine cutting off, there's several things that could cause this.

Ignition, fuel, computer/sensors, mechanical, etc. You'll have to do a thorough diagnosis to isolate the cause, but do your checking in that order. If you need help with a particular procedure, write back and I'll help you from there.
