Transmission repair

Hopefully someone can tell me if these repair costs are legit. My mother in law had problem with her 2000 Buick Lasabre, 72k. They diagnosed for $195, then replaced Torque converter and flywheel. TC parts were $300, $60 for flywheel, $507 labor to install.
Still made a noise; now they are saying it needs a rebuilt transmission, $2600 for parts, another $507 for labor. Is it me, or does this seem on the high side? Also, shouldn't the transmission problem have shown up when the diagnosed for new converter and flywheel.
Thanks, any input is appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply.

You should have called around to different shops and tried to get an estimate for the work. I don't know the labor rates for that shop? Yes, the costs sound high.

You could have got an estimate on a rebuilt tranny from different shops. The cheapest place may not be the best, but, it would give you an idea about the costs.
