When I stop for a period of time the car will try to overheat so I keep the heat on wich helps but when it does try to it starts to shift real hard and severe loss of power ive checked all the obvious reasons like fans, coolant level, and trans fluid looks good I did a filter kit with new fluid it started only every once and a while now it does it all the time what could make it do this

The 3.1 or 3.4 engine in your car has a history of head gasket problems. Check the oil to see if it is overfull or if it is milky looking. You can also smell it to see if it smells a little like antifreeze. If you are near 100000 miles then it is common for this problem to occur. If you are not sure, you should let a mechanic verify the problem ; it can also be a different issue. GOOD LUCK. Let us know what you find out. MARK
