1995 Buick Century my car will not start

I just replaced my starter and then my battery and my car died on me a day after I replaced the battery I can get my car jumped and it starts but will not stay running my service engine light comes on right before it dies and it also back fires. Do you know what might be wrong? Thank you

Question, why do you have to jump start the car if you just replaced the battery? Also, if the "check engine" light is coming on, you need to find which fault code(s) are stored in memory. This will give me a clue.
