Are you saying it has trouble shifting? If that's the case, is the tranny fluid ok? Another thing you might check is the vacuum line going to the modulator, see if the line has any fluid in it?

I would have someone also check the crankshaft between the crank and the clutch-plate that connects to the transmission.
If there is looseness in this area, it means that the bolts are coming loose, and your heading for serious engine trouble.
What can happen, over time is the big gear plate comes loose, and as the transmission goes to switch gears it gets a little ahead of itself and causes a buckling with the engine.
