My drivers side front caliper is slow to release and causes the pads to drag on the rotor. When returning after a short drive the calipers are hot to the touch and sometimes even smoking a little. After releasing the brake pedal you can hear a groan coming from the front caliper as it slowly opens back up. I replaced the caliper with a brand new one and it still does it. Also, the washer portion of the hose that connects to the caliper doesn’t drip fluid out like the other side when disconnected. When I changed the caliper I didn’t need to rush or clamp it because nothing comes out unless pressure is applied to the brake pedal.

Hi, Joel. I need you to test something for me. You will need a helper.

Safely lift the driver's side affected wheel off the ground and spin it by hand. Next, have a helper apply the brake so you can't turn the wheel. When the brake is released, does the wheel turn easily? If not, open the bleeder on the brake caliper and see if it then releases.

If it does. Replace the rubber brake hose to that caliper. Over time, they can break down internally and restrict the return of brake fluid when the brake is released.

If you find the hose needs replaced, here are the directions. The attached pics correlate with the directions.

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in Service Precautions.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in Service Precautions.

Removal Procedure

pic 1

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Release the wheel speed sensor wire harness retainers and harness from the front brake hose.

Pic 2

4. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose ends and the brake pipe fitting.
5. Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose. Cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
6. Release the retaining clip from the brake hose mounting bracket and the brake hose.

Pic 3

7. Remove the brake hose-to-caliper bolt from the brake caliper.
8. Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolt.
9. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
10. Remove and discard the copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
11. Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

pic 4

1. Remove the caps or plugs from the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose.

2. Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt, to the brake hose.

3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt to the brake caliper.
Tighten the bolt to 44 Nm (32 ft. Lbs.).
4. Install the front brake hose bracket retaining bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).

Pic 5

5. Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end.
6. Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, connect the brake pipe fitting at the front brake hose.
Tighten the fitting to 18 Nm (13 ft. Lbs.).
7. Install the brake hose retaining clip to the brake hose and the brake hose mounting bracket.
8. Connect the wheel speed sensor wire harness and harness retainers to the front brake hose.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
10. Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension. Check the hose in extreme right and extreme left turn conditions. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system.
12. Lower the vehicle.

If this doesn't help, let me know. It may have to do with the slide pins. However, since you replaced the caliper, I suspect that has been checked.

Take care,
Joe
