When I hit bumps my front end seems very bouncy at times.

Have the shock absorbers or struts replaced.
The repair manual says these have shock absorbers and they keep the springs from just bouncing continuously.

Bouncy front end and the check suspension light comes on and off. Sometimes it is okay for days then will come on.

Good morning.

There is a fault code stored in the suspension module for this failure. You need to have this read and when you have the code, we can further help you with possible failures.

It could be the pump, relay or a connection in the system. When it does not work, I recommend not driving it as you could damage the system further by driving it with no suspension control.

Can I use just a code reader or or does it need to go to the dealer?

No, code readers only read the engine.

No to the dealer, a parts store has the ability to read those codes and it is a free service.

The AutoZone around me is the same, must just be they do not want to invest in better scan tools for all the stores but who knows the truth behind that. I do know that Advance Auto around me does scan any module you want scanned not just the engine control module.
