Hi,

recently (inside last 6 months) some times when I am pulling away in first the engin will appear to stall then recover but act as if it is in nutral, I will loose all drive and i will have to put it back to nutral and then back into first, the car will recover and drive away fine (before I get ripped for this its not that im not giving it enough gas and stalling the car myself).
At first I thought it was just the car needing a good service as it was getting close to that time so i put it in just before christmas. But today I was drving in 3rd and the engin seemed to cut out completly. I had to pull the car over and restart the engin. There are no strange sounds comming from the engin and it seems to tick over fine normally when left parked up and out of gear. The problem seems to becomming more frequent in the past month (might have happend 4 or 5 times). I asked the garage about it at the time of service and they didnt know what it could be as there were no errors showing in the onboard computer.

This is starting to worrie me now and I could really do with some advice as it is the first BMW I have owned so I am not sure if this is a common problem. Can any one please shed light on the problem or give me any ideas or tests I can perform.

Also scince I have last posted this there seems to be more somke than usual comming out of the exhorst. At first i put it down the the cold outside and the fact the engin was cold but this also happens when the engin is warmed up and its about 3oC outside.

The VIN for the car is:-
WBACH72080LB03368

It sounds like a similar sort of problem Annmarie had see:-
