2000 BMW X5 won't start

I have been having trouble with the car not starting. It will crank and fire quickly but not start. After many tries it will eventually start. Sometimes it will stall after a few minutes of driving and other times it will drive just fine. I have replaced the fuel filter spark plugs. Could it be the camshaft sensor or the crankshaft sensor?

If it was a sensor it would turn the check engine light on. Is the light on? If so, have you checked the fault codes?

Thanks for your response. The service engine light is on the hazard light is in on in the center but no check engine light.

The codes that come up are OF 8d (engine cooling fan control)
A4- ambient pressure sensor
78-vehichle speed

It could be many things, could you repost with the VIN please. I will run a history through DCS and see what has been done at the dealership level.

The vehicle speed fault you are getting is one of the crank or cam sensors, think its cam but not 100% sure.

Crank or cam sensors might throw a plausibility fault but probably would not keep it from starting. The MAF will keep it from starting but I cannot tell from the information at hand.
