I am getting a bad vibration through my steering wheel when driving at 40mph. Even worse at high speed.

I have had the front bushes replaced, wheels balanced & tracking re-aligned but still got the problem.

Garage is now telling me that I need to fork out another £200 plus to replace something on the steering column.

Any ideas?

The diagnosis path the garage took is what I might have done too, checking the things they checked and/or replacing what they did seems quite likely and normal. The replacement of the item in the steering column is a repair that is mentioned in a BMW bulletin and I agree with the possibility of it happening to solve this issue. This link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=EV53&mospid=47725&btnr=32_0942&hg=32&fg=30
shows what the part in the bulletin that needs replacement looks like, it's the flexible coupler, #2. It has been updated to a new part number to solve the front end wobble issue. Â 200 seems a bit high, maybe they are in for some negotiations.
