My brother has a 2001 BMW 330Ci that Im trying to help him with. His car is using a quart of oil about every two weeks. He took it to the place we usually take our cars and generally they are great. They diagnosed it as a bad PCV valve. So he paid about $700 to fix that and about a month later, he had the yellow oil light come back on and sure enough, the dipstick was very low, almost to the bottom. The car is not leaking anywhere we can see and no matter where he parks or how long the car sits there, there is never any drips. Also the car isnt sending any blue smoke out the exaust that we can see. The car actually just passed smog the other day. Do you guys have any ideas?

Oil consumption is an issue for BMW only when it exceeds the standard they set, which is 1 quart in about 1500 miles. It may not exhibit issues such as blue smoke or drips on the floor, but the engine is never the less using oil, as you stated. 100k miles is not a lot, have you maintained the maintenance requirements and changed the oil and filter at the suggested intervals with the correct oil and OE filters?

Yes my brother tends to be pretty good at maintaining his car. He really doesnt drive it much though his commute to work is no more than a mile each way and there is no way he is driving that much in two weeks. He does about 600 miles a month but he does about 1.5+ quarts a month also. This is really amazing.
