Dear 2 car pros,

I have a 1995 BMW 325is. It was beginning of this year and was pretty cold in LA, CA. I parked the car outside over night and car just wouldn't start @ all. I have changed the batteries and still don't start. I took it to local mechanic shop and has power comes to the starter(starter runs fine) and just engine wouldn't start.(No crank @ all) I had to took the car to the dealer and they have told me that the dealer has a computer that can test the car and c what the problems are. They called me a week later saying that they have to change the fuel pump but not gaurantee, it's the start point. The price was $800. I was pissed off as soon as they told me. It has to do with some sort of electric problem according to my regular mechanic. I just don't understand the BMW dealer doesn't have the answer for my car. Can you please tell me what it is, i'm sure you have the experience. Thank you.

Jay, you have an opportunity to go to the bureau of automotive repairs and let them know what the dealer is doing. I would think that the two things you stated are totally unrelated. No crank no start is not a fuel pump issue mate! If the starter can be made to crank the car from the solenoid, then the starter is not bad. If there is a failure of the key to send power to the starter, which is what sounds like you are experiencing, then I would look at the possibility of the ignition tumbler/lock assembly possibly being compromised internally which would then not allow the electrical portion of the ignition switch to work correctly and would not allow the car to start. This is a common failure and I can recommend someone I know and trust in the Los Angeles area. Standing by à â Â
