1988 BMW 325 overheating

Put on new water pump, thermostat today no leaks. Drove around normal drivin. Then drove about 20 miles on interstate. Got off at exit then it jumped up to the red on gauge and blew anti freeze out the cap an over flow! Any ideas besides bleedin theair on themostat housing?

The first thing that comes to mind is to bleed all the air from the system and to test the pressure cap, they have been known to fail. If the radiator has buildup inside the core from age, it may also be a factor. Also check the fan clutch for proper operation, it should lock up when the engine heats up, like in stop and go driving.
