That truck doesn't use electrical actuators for the blend door, it has an old school cable control for temperature and vacuum pots for the mode controls. You can access the cable from two locations, through the glove box opening after you remove the door and if the opposite end is the problem then you would remove the control head to get to it. To get the GB door off you release the two tabs at the back by pushing them in and letting the door drop down then it should lift out. Behind it will be the control cable like the second image. The special tool is to lock the blend door in place and commonly comes with a replacement cable as it's basically a short pin with a handle. The third shows the mode pots on the left and the blend door on the right. Next you pull the dash trim to get to the back of the control head. Your description sounds like the gear that moves the cable may have split. With the trim down you will see where the cable connects to it. Disconnect it and examine the gear there and the one in the cable. To replace it you need to make sure the gear is aligned with the locking tab.
