A/C not blowing cold air, Blend door actuators?

I took it to a mechanic, and he said that just the blend door actuators are broken, and he can turn them by hand. But he said I couldn’t just replace the broken blend doors, that I had to replace the “whole piece” but couldn’t give me a name of the “piece” that the blend doors connect to. Just that it would cost me $500.00. What piece could he be referring to? I just wanted some more information before I pay $500.00 on something I don’t even know the name of.

The part is called an HVAC module, this houses the heater core and AC evaporator. So, did he say he couldn't move the blend door a with the actuator removed? This is rare, it is more likely the actuator went out, can I ask if the A/C is not working on both the right and left sides?

With the system on I would see if the discharge hose was cold under the hood. Here is what the HVAC housing module looks like in the images below. Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.
