Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

A backfire can be caused by a few things. First, take a look through this link to see if there is anything helpful.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-backfires-while-running

Next, I need to know if the cylinder head was checked for cracks. 1999 and 2000 are known for the cylinder head cracking between cylinders 3 and 4. Make sure there is no indication of a leak. I would also recommend checking the compression to see if there is an issue.

Let me know,
Joe

Thanks for getting back. The engine is a 4.0, straight six.
And everything you have mentioned we had checked and everything was okay. No cracks with cylinders, and the compression in it was good. No leaks anywhere.
