Message appears: AWD high temperature stop vehicle?

Car goes for a bit then slams into down shift where it won’t go but like 2 MPH and shows a message saying awd high temp stop vehicle.

Yep, this means the car is in limp mode, so we need to scan for codes to see what the number is that way we can get it fixed, this guide can help:

I would wait until the engine is cold, then open the cooling system to make sure it is full of coolant. Also, I would check the fluid inside the transfer case, if it is low the unit will overheat. I would change out the fluid because when it wears out it will slip and cause this code, there is a drain plug in the bottom of the unit.
