From take off just after I warm it up in morning, it takes a while for it to shift from first to second and rpm's can get pretty high before it changes.

Good morning.

I would start by changing the fluid and filter and adding some valve body modifier. There may be some dirt in the valve body restricting the movement of the shift valves.
