Van started running weird then two seconds later stopped completely! I put battery charger on it, it started and ran. Take charger off it will shut off almost immediately. Noticed the second time I tried even with the charger on and van running alternator belt was not spinning at all! Took charger off and it shut off again. Why would the belt not spin like that?

Either it sounds like a slack or broken belt or one of the pulleys is locked up.

Off the top of my head, my best guess would either be the A/C compressor or its pulley.

Does it do this with the A/C completely off and the heat settings completely off?

I have a few links from our "Repair Guides" (top right of our pages) that might be helpful for your repair. These all pertain to the serpentine belt.
