Ferrari sometimes will not start

Usually the engine starts normally when the key is turned. Sometimes (maybe 2 out 10 times) the engine does not turn when the key is turned, even though the lights turn on and one can hear the usual electrical hiss indicating power is being supplied.
What are the possibilities for the source of the problem starting with the most likely?
