I have a 1998 Windstar w/ 104,000 miles. Today, the temp gage started to go over the half when I accelerated, especially if I was going uphill. The temp went back down when I slowed down or idilled. It never passed 2/3 top of gage. What are common causes for overheating?

Thanks,
Heloise

Sounds like radiator is plugged in core and not cooling enough under load also check for evidence of coolant in oil. You didnt mention loss of coolant but possible head gasket leak doesn't mean loss of water
