1986 F-150, 302cid, EFI, won't start

I just replaced the intake manifold gaskets because of a coolant leak, which required disconnecting the supply and return fuel fittings at the rail. I have verified spark and initial timing. I also verified fuel in the rail, but it still won't fire. If I hold the pedal to the floor it will backfire out the intake. I suspect an air lock in the fuel rail but don't know how to correct this. It is also quite possible that it is something else. Computer codes did not indicate anything wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rick

Backfire suggest timming is wrong! Or wires not routed correctly.
If you need help on the proceedure to set correct timming let me know.

Merlin,

Thank you for your assistance. I set the timing as follows - I turned the engine to 10 deg BTDC then attached a plug wire and plug to #1 on the dist cap. I then turned the ign on and turned the dist to where the plug just fires then locked the dist. I then used a timing light to fine tune the timing to 10 deg BTDC at cranking speed. Shouldn't that be close enough to start?

Thanks

Merlin,
You were right! I forgot all I knew about 4 cycle engines and had set the timing 180 out. Once I took the cap off and realized what I was doing, I slapped myself back to reality and it is now running fine. I only have.1 points but you were the only right answer, so take 10.
Thank you,
Rick
