It will only go off during braking and backing up.

Hi,

There is a component called a clock spring in the steering wheel that may have failed. By chance, does the horn work? If you have cruise control, is it working? If not, this is my first suspect.

What you could do is have the computer scanned to determine if there are diagnostic trouble codes specific to the problem.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

I attached the wiring schematic showing the clock spring along with the air bag. Note that the cruise control and horn depend on this to work.

Let me know.

Joe

See pic below. Note: If you decide to remove the steering wheel to access the clock spring, make sure the battery is disconnected and there are no power supplies to the system for at least 10 minutes prior to starting.

Thank you very much for the schematic. The horn and cruise control both work. So, I guess I need to find someone with a tester and have it checked out.

Hi,

That is what I would suggest. If you can have the computer scanned, it may lead you right to the problem.

If you have a chance, let me know what is found or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe
