Hello,

Was watching your YouTube videos. I am replacing a few parts on my car for the air conditioning due to age and the compressor is starting to become noisy. This is preventative maintenance.

I am unsure of how much compressor oil (mine takes PAG 100 R134a) to add to the components during this recharge. I am replacing the compressor, condenser, drier/accumulator, and the expansion valve. I will evacuate, replace parts, and recharge. My compressor comes pre-filled with R134a oil.

I asked a technician at the Subaru dealership how much compressor oil I should add on top of that. He said nothing, the compressor and what is used to refill comes with enough oil. However, I was reading online, and guys think that you should add 1 ounce for every component that is replaced.

I was wondering what your thoughts might be.

Thanks,

Gabriel

Most new compressors come charged with enough PAG oil for the entire system. So it should cover all the components that you intend to replace. I found a few places that list the total capacity to be 6.0 oz. For your vehicle. You can always drain the new compressor oil into a clean measuring device to be sure. Note that the compressor will not fully drain all of the oil, but you will be able to get a good idea.
