Air condition blowing hot air

The vehicle was overheating, so I replace the water pump and then it stopped overheating. But then when I turned on the air condition all it did was blow hot air. So then I try to recharge it and it's still only blew hot-air.

Does the compressor engage when the AC is turned on?

Do you have a set of gauges to tell me the high and low readings on the AC system?
